Where is Val d’Isere?
The history of Val d’Isere dates back several centuries and before it became the famous resort it is known as today it was a remote mountain village.
Whilst there’s a lot to know about Val d’Isere the main things you should know is that it’s situated deep in the French Alps, it makes up part of the famous Espace Killy ski area which is one of the world’s most famous skiing regions. In close proximity to the border with Italy, guests can enjoy pistes in both countries.
It wasn’t until the 1930s that the Val d’Isere’s skiing culture began to take shape. While locals had skied for years, this was when the first ski lift was constructed and tourists started to arrive in numbers for the first time.
As the years wore on, the resort became more and more renowned, particularly as it hosted many major alpine events such as the 1992 Winter Olympics and the annual Alpine Ski World Cup.
Today, it’s celebrated for its unique blend of tradition and cutting-edge skiing infrastructure that makes it one of the most accomplished resorts in the world.
For those curious on how to get to Val d’Isere, as mentioned earlier, we’d recommend airport transfers if you’re planning a trip to Val d’Isere.
While Chambery airport in France is the closest to the resort, flying into Switzerland’s Geneva Airport tends to be more convenient.
This is because it has more capacity, more regular flights and cheaper fares. From here, it is then a two hour and 45 minutes drive to Val d’Isere (depending on traffic and the conditions).
You can choose between two transfer types – shared and private.
Our private transfers provide you with exclusive access to one of our luxurious vehicles as you make the journey to Val d’Isere. You’ll be greeted by a driver upon arrival and you and your party will then travel in style, getting to enjoy the stunning mountain views on the way. Plus, all our drivers come packed with local knowledge and recommendations so be sure to ask them for the best spots!
Alternatively, you can go for a shared transfer.
These transfers follow much the same route as our private ones, but you will share the vehicle with other visitors to Val d’Isere and resorts nearby. The journey will include many drop-off points at resorts across the region. If you prefer, we can organise for a private minibus to take you directly to your accommodation once you’ve been dropped off in Val d’Isere.
As well as being extremely convenient transport options, all of our transfers mean that you don’t need to worry about having to reach the resort in public transport or by using a hire car which can be challenging in the wintery, mountain conditions.
