ABOUT LES DEUX ALPES

Les Deux Alpes is perched at an altitude of 1650 metres on a high plateau at the edge of the Ecrins National Park, south-east of Grenoble. The steep slopes rising to the east of the town provide access to the main ski area, which culminates in glacier skiing at 3421 metres.

 

The ‘Two Alps’ of its name refers not to the mountains, but to the high pastures that once belonged to the neighbouring villages of Venosc and Mont de Lans.

SHARED TRANSFERS TO LES DEUX ALPES

Alpine Fleet offers shared transfers from Geneva Airport to Les Deux Alpes on Saturdays in the winter season and these are BRAND new for season 2024/2025. 

 

A shared transfer is exactly as it sounds and will see you share the ski transfer with other groups who are arriving on similar timed flights. Shared transfers to Les Deux Alpes are the most economical way to travel – though sharing with other passengers can mean that there are wait times before the bus departs.

 

Our transfers from Geneva Airport to Les Deux Alpes will be operated in executive coaches which have excellent leg room and space for baggage and skis. Travelling with other passengers is also the most carbon friendly option.

 

We offer a fixed point shared service to Les Deux Alpes you can chose the closest stop to your destination.  Please check our map below for all the stops on our line. Upon demand, we will also stop at the base station of Bourg- D’Oisans for passengers heading to Alpe D’Huez.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN LES DEUX ALPES

Les Deux Alpes has become synonymous with the legendary Rise Music Festival. The festival runs early December every year and lasts for a full week with world renown artists playing at elevation. This year’s festival runs from 7th -14th December 2024.

 

If you are looking for some seriously good pizza we recommend Le Pizzeria. This is a super small locale found on the high street and The Pizzas are nothing short of exquisite! This is a top find and has become our favourite place to eat in Les Deux Alpes.

 

For a lively après ski we recommend The Pano Bar, where things generally kick off at 15:00.  Expect resident and guest DJs and varied entertainers that include a sax player and dancers.

 

In addition, there are plenty of pubs and bars to choose from, often with live acoustic music. Just head along the main street and you’ll find the Windsor PubSecret BarPolar Bear Pub and Red Frog catering to British tastes, whilst the Motown Café, Mezzanine Bar, and are more French in style.

SKIING IN LES DEUX ALPES

The resort has a total of 51 lifts, including the underground Dome Express Funicular and the Jandri Express, the world’s fastest gondola. The ski area itself is broken down into seven sectors, covering 225km of groomed pistes with a maximum vertical drop of 2,300m, offering 17 green pistes, 45 blue, 22 red and 12 black. The resort also has the advantage of summer glacier skiing.

 

Other nearby ski resorts include Alpe D’Huez, which is found around 25 kms away and Serre Chevalier which sits a little longer at around 50kms.

Rise Festival is a legendary festival which works closely with the local community by taking over Les Deux Alpes from 7th of December for a jam-packed week of world renowned artists, skiing and embracing all the local features of the village.

Les Deux Alpes is situated at 1650 altitude and with a highest point of the resort to 3600m.
Les Deux Alpes is one of the few resorts that has guaranteed skiing all year round due to glacier skiing. Sledging is such fun for kids and also those adults wanting to enjoy a slippery and slidey fun on the two sledging tracks designed with nets and foam protections – don’t forget your helmets. If you’re feeling even more adventurous you can take the plunge at Big Air Bag Park.

 

For something a little closer to understanding why lies within the mountain, the ice caves at the foot of the glacier near by Jandri Express lift. It takes 5 months to create; made up of 8 grottos, 3 rooms and a 200m gallery, there’s lots to explore

Les Deux Alpes has been issued Famille Plus status due to the easy access of family friendly chalets and self catered accommodations and great beginner skiing. The village is easily accessible on foot to reach the snow front.

Traditionally in the past it would only have been apartment style accommodation available for visitors.

 

However, over the past few years we also have seen a large number of chalets for both catered and self-catered being built in the area and which will bring additional 3500 beds to the resort for winter 24/25. You will never be spoiled to choice.

Yes, their weekly ski passes for Les Deux Alpes give you the opportunity to also ski in Alpe D’huez and the local town also puts on daily buses so you can ski in two different resorts on one holiday. What a treat.

 

The rumour is that there new lift will possibly be built to connect these two resorts in near future.

When you stay in Les Deux Alpes, you can ski in Alpe d’Huez for 2 days on a 6 days ski lift pass, and vice versa. You can travel between the resorts via bus as the La Grave link is not always available to Alpe d’Huez.

There are an estimated 44 ski lifts in the Les Deux Alpes region and between the region of Alpe d’Huez, just next door, which makes up the second biggest ski area in france.

Yes, you can ski from Les Dues Alpes to La Grave, we recommend this as a great day trip for those advanced skiers which you can use the lift system to access. If you do this, ensure it’s with a guide. 

 

You’ll also need to make sure your party is only advanced off piste skiers or snowboarders, kitted out with avalanche safety packs and know how to use them. 

There are plenty of options to fly into to get to Les Deux Alpes. Geneva usually has the most affordable flights. Grenoble Airport, however, is the closest airport which just has private transfer options.

Skiing in Les Deux Alpes is great for all skiing abilities from beginners, to intermediates and advanced skiers with a great range of blue, green and red runs to choose from.

Usually a pint would be between €7 EUR and €9 EUR. We always recommend checking out the happy hours on apres for a great choice of affordable drinks if you are on budget.

Nested by the Erincis national park, there is rumour of brown bears spotted here from time to time.

Les Deux Alpes in English is “The Two Alps” and references the neighbouring villages of Venosc and Mont de Lans that sit at the southern and northern tips respectively in the wide resort of Les Deux Alpes.

Yes without a doubt this can be a great party resort. One of the best festivals in the Alps, Rise Festival, starts the winter season, which brings the resort to life and sets the tone for the rest of the ski season.

Les Deux Alpes is located in the Islere Valley which also includes Alpe d’Huez, Chamrousse and about 20 other ski resorts in this valley.

February tends to be the best time to travel here as its got a great base of snow, coupled with sunshine and the buzz of holiday markers. It does mean however during this month with school holidays it can be busier and more expensive.

For those seeking adventure and a thrill you must embark on the most difficult ski run in Les Deux Alpes called La Fée 5″. Compiling of a steep slope which is enjoyable for advanced skiers.

Les Deux Alpes is filled with a lot of challenges and one not miss is the Jandri Piste, a very long blue piste run and descending almost 16 kms. 

Grenoble would be the closest train station to Les Deux Alpes –  it’s roughly 1 hour and 30 mins away by taxi.

In Les Deux Alpes there are a wide range of options here to choose from. A usual restaurant meal is estimated at 18 euros. 

 

There are great options for pizza, burgers, salads and many more choices too. Our favourite is Le Pizzeria –  the best pizzas outside Italy.

As this resort boasts beginner and intermediate high altitude skiing options, we find that usually in February & March are the busiest times of the winter season.

Shared transfer options are available from Les Deux Alpes to Geneva every Saturday throughout the winter season.
