ABOUT LES GETS

Located in the French Alps and full of pretty wooden chalets and balcony-clad buildings, Les Gets has heaps of charm. Les Gets is the village next to Morzine , on the southern edge of the Portes du Soleil. It has two ski areas either side of the town: Mont Chéry and Chavannes.

Les Gets sits 100m higher than Morzine, so is often snowier. Up on the mountain there’s a great variety of ski runs, and lots of them twist and turn through the forest, both perfect for skiing. It’s easy to ski into Morzine and on to Switzerland- so you can ski two countries in one day.

Les Gets has undergone a lot of recent building work and beautiful stunning chalets and apartments have been extended in this village. It is renowned for families due to very well connected ski areas, stunning alpine village and community vibe here.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN LES GETS

Les Gets is one of those resorts that you will be forever returning to. The village is a very sweet and traditional Alpine village. It is one of the most magical places to spend your time in the French Alps.

While exploring the forest tree ski runs in Les Gets & then even skiing over to Morzine & then able to ski back while enjoying the mountain restaurants and bars along the way.

When you are not skiing we would recommend visiting the year round Alta Lumina forest trail. This is a beautiful and rich emotional experience about the enchanting environment shared through the poetics of light, music, imagery, set design and interactivity.

Tasting the local cheese savoyard specialties then look no further than the unique shop and restaurant of La Fruitière des Perrières. You are not to miss an evening there as its delight for your taste buds and cultural experience too. For a more local vibe with pub feel and local drinks you can enjoy Le Boomerang or maybe you prefer a night in at your own accommodation, then can also do delivery for you.

Morzine is more known for the lively Apres experience, which you can easily still access via the local bus back to Les Gets however Les Gets still has apres and plenty of bars to choose from, one our favourites is the L’Aprèski Bar Resto – Les Gets. After a fun day skiing you can ski straight in from the Chavannes piste. Local DJS and music events happening most days and also plenty of pub style food to have a bite to eat while enjoying your Apres.

Frequently Asked Questions

LES GETS

Before settling on Les Gets as your ski resort of choice, it’s important you understand the basics of what it offers and where it is.

The Alps has ski resorts in numerous countries due to the sprawling nature of the mountain range, and Les Gets can be found in the east of France, extremely close to the border with Switzerland. Due to its proximity to the Swiss Alps, many people fly into Geneva before crossing the border with France to get to the commune.

The resort is based in the heart of the stunning Chablais massif region that, as well as offering remarkable alpine views, is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area which is one of the biggest in the world.

All visitors to the resort are able to experience cross-border skiing, with some slopes starting in France and bending into Switzerland. It is also situated between two other famous ski resorts – Tanignes and Morzine.

The ski season in Les Gets typically runs from early December to April. The best time to visit depends on your preference for snow conditions and crowd levels.

When you embark on a skiing trip, along with altitude snow is another thing people focus on.

If you’re determined that dense snowfall is a must, Les Gets might not be exactly what you’re looking for. On average, it experiences around 321cm of snow per year with the average snow depth being 100cm.

While snow does fall about 23 times a year, snow is not guaranteed at the village level. But, the higher peaks do offer snow with artificial snow regularly being pumped out on the slopes. Plus, the natural greenery on offer provides unrivalled beauty in its own right.

Les Gets can be found on the eastern border of France, extremely close to neighbouring Switzerland.

With this in mind, Les Gets can be reached by both countries, but perhaps the best way to get there is to fly to Geneva Airport. In fact, it’s an extremely short drive from the airport to the resort, and when conditions are favourable it only takes around an hour to drive there.

Due to this, many people might consider hiring a car, and while this is certainly an option, we’d always recommend using a transfer. Transfers regularly operate from Geneva Airport, taking people directly to Les Gets and meaning they don’t need to worry about navigating mountain roads.

Both shared and private transfers are available. Private transfers can be arranged and reserved for just you and your group, whereas shared transfers will take larger groups of people.

At Alpine Fleet, we offer both options and can cater services directly to you and your needs.

The altitude of Les Gets is 1,172m (839ft) meaning people can reach staggering heights when skiing at the resort.

Altitude is not always the most important element when it comes to skiing, but it’s worth noting that Les Gets is slightly higher than the neighbouring Morzine.

So, if reaching great heights is important to you, then Les Gets is always an excellent choice.

Les Gets is an excellent choice for those who are attempting skiing for the first time.

In fact, the resort is actually considered one of the best options for beginners in the whole of Europe. In particular, the Chavannes side of Les Gets features a wide range of beginner areas where people can get to grips with skiing for the first time.

Mappys is the largest beginner-friendly area at Les Gets, with two magic carpet lifts and two cable-tow lifts that can take visitors to the correct area. It’s worth noting that Mappys is mid-mountain, and to get back to the village a blue (intermediate) run will need to be navigated. However, for those still not confident to take on a blue run, a gondola can get you back to base.

There are also several green runs to enjoy, and when you feel confident enough you can progress to several blue options.

As well as the beginner ski areas, there is a child skiing area called Grand Cry. This is Red Indian themed, and features a mauve ski run (for kids) that is full of plants and animals for the children to identify and enjoy.

There are a whole host of non-skiing activities on offer in Les Gets from ice skating to spa facilities and shopping in the village.

Les Gets is the perfect ski resort for families who are looking for a skiing holiday that can be enjoyed by all.

There are a whole host of activities that are designed specifically for families. This includes fun zones, toboggan runs, electric snowmobiles, dog sledging and much more.

Les Gets is also Europe’s leading mountain bike resort, so if you’ve had enough of the slopes you can enjoy a cycle around the beautiful forest roads and experience the excellent terrain.

There is also a wide range of restaurants and accommodation options you can choose from.

Furthermore, the resort prides itself on ‘soft mobility’ which means it is extremely easy to get around. There are free shuttles, little trains, electric bicycles and more that can help you move around, with options for everyone.

Les Gets has a vast choice of different types of accommodations, from hotels to chalets or AirBnBs. Visitors can choose an option that suits their needs, style and preferences as there’s something for everyone.

Absolutely, Les Get has a host of shops that rent ski equipment suitable for skiers of all levels. We would always recommend Skiset, we’ve partnered with them to give 50% off for all our customers.

Les Gets is part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, where there are various ski pass options. From daily passes, multi-day passes, or season passes, depending on the duration of your stay.

Les Gets has a vibrant après-ski scene with numerous bars and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy a variety of cuisines, local specialties, and lively nightlife.

Les Gets has a terrain park equipped with features for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. It caters to different skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders.

There are local ski shuttles that operate that you travel on with your ski pass. This is great way to travel around the resort these even connect to Morzine

Due to its proximity in the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, many people choose Les Gets as it is close to other resorts.

There are 71 slopes and 41 chair lifts shared by Les Gets and Morzine, and it’s extremely easy to spend time moving between the two and navigating the various peaks that the pair have to offer. In total, there is around 120km that is shared by both resorts.

This is extremely beneficial for people who are looking to maximise their experience and take in a broad range of slopes during their trip.

A joint piste map is also available, and no matter what level you’re at it is fairly simple to move between Les Gets and Morzine.

You won’t be able to ski directly from Avoriaz to Les Get, but you can travel there.

From Avoriaz, you would need to use a combination of both the lift system and local transportation.

Firstly you’ll need to ski the Prodain cable car home run, arriving here you can then go straight outside of the lift and take the local Morzine bus to Morzine centre (an estimated 10 minute journey time).

From here you can then use the Le Pleney cable car and then ski through the trees to the beautiful resort of Les Gets.

Les Gets and Morzine are two of the best interconnected resorts in the Porte Des Soleil.

From Morzine you can take the Le Pleney lift and ski the tree line pistes of Morzine straight into Les Gets.

Another option is taking the Nyon Telecabine, from here you can ski right into Les Gets as well.

If you want to go to Les Gets for the day and not ski, you can use a local bus from Morzine Centre that will take you to Les Gets. – Be sure to check the bus times to avoid waiting or missing the bus as they usually operate every 45 minutes or so during the day

Les Gets may shock you as this family friendly village is actually higher than Morzine and sits at a 1172m altitude with the ability to ski to the highest level of the Mont Chery Summit at 1826m altitude.

Les Gets’ snow fall usually happens from mid December to early April. The conditions here may not always be powder snow, but the posters do a fantastic job in keeping the pistes well groomed and great for families and intermediate skiers.

Les Gets has plenty of winter sports activities to participate in. With the wides pistes for those learning and wanting to improve their skiing skills, especially with the snowparks built in this area too.

When you are not skiing we would recommend visiting the year round Alta Lumina forest trail. A beautiful and rich emotional experience about the enchanting environment shared through the poetics of light, music, imagery, set design and interactivity.

Les Gets is a year round town with skiing in winter and billing in summer.

However during the winter period, the Les Gets ski lifts open partially from 14th of December to the 20th December depending on the snow conditions.

They are then continuously open from 21st December until 06th April. – If conditions are great then a season extension may be granted.

For tasting the local cheese savoyard specialties then look no further than the unique shop and restaurant of La Fruitière des Perrières. You are not to miss an evening there as it’s a delight for your taste buds and a cultural experience too.

For a more local vibe with pub feel and local drinks you can enjoy Le Boomerang, but if you prefer a night in at your own accommodation then can also deliver directly to you too.

The beautiful thing about Les Gets is that there are plenty of accommodation options.

From ski in & ski out properties nested in the mountain sides of the Chavannes or Mont Chery areas, to piste front hotels such as the Bellevue, Christinia Hotel & Spa, Chamois d’or and Alpina Hotel.

If self-catered is more your style, there are plenty of apartments located around the village area and chalets on the Mont Chery side.

Depending on your location choice, we have both door to door and fixed point shared transfers to help you get to your accommodation.

Les Gets is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva. Usually on Saturdays traffic can have congestion on the bends up to Les Gets & through the village of Les Gets so extra travel time may be required. On Sunday afternoons traffic is also very high departing from Les Gets due to alot of weekend travellers from Geneva returning home and not just those flying out Geneva Airport, so we may allowed addition time travel at this time.
