Can you visit Les Deux Alpes in summer?

Yes, Les Deux Alpes in summer is a great place to visit.

One of the biggest reasons the resort stands out is that it offers skiing until early July thanks to its high-altitude glacier, the largest skiable glacier in all of Europe. While many resorts close during the off-season, Les Deux Alpes remains open well into the summer.

Beyond skiing, lifts continue to operate for other activities like mountain biking and hiking. Plus, the many restaurants, shops and hotels are quieter, making them less crowded and often more affordable. The lively vibe also continues with several summer events and sporting competitions.

So, no matter what kind of trip you are looking for, Les Deux Alpes is always a great choice.

Les Deux Alpes summer skiing

Summer skiing at Les Deux Alpes is centred around the resort’s iconic glacier, which reaches an impressive altitude of 3,600 metres. At this height, snow quality remains surprisingly good even during the year’s warmer months. The glacier has snow cover all year round, which is why skiing is possible in the summer. While the ski area is smaller compared to winter, it still offers a unique experience.

However, skiing conditions are usually best in the morning when it is firmest.  Most skiers try to hit the slopes as early as possible, as after midday the snow can be more slushy and less stable.

What’s more, compared to the peak season, summer skiing is far quieter with fewer people on the slopes. This means shorter lift queues and a more relaxing experience, something that beginners and families may welcome. This also means it is ideal for training as people can hone their skills without being crowded.

Other Les Deux Alpes summer activities

Skiing is not the only activity that can be enjoyed at Les Deux Alpes in summer. Other things include:

  • Mountain biking: Les Deux Alpes is famous for downhill biking. It has a wide range of trails that can be accessed by lift and routes and terrain to suit riders of all abilities. Overall, it is considered to be one of the best bike parts in the whole of Europe.
  • Hiking: The region has hundreds of kilometres of trails to explore. This can range from easy walks to more challenging hikes. But one thing every route has in common is the stunning scenery you will experience along the way.
  • Paragliding: Paragliding flights allow visitors to see the Alps from above – an unforgettable experience that will live long in the memory.
  • Relaxing: As well as outdoor activities, the resort is full of wellness centres, spas and pools where you can unwind.
  • Weekly markets: Summer markets allow visitors the chance to sample local cheeses, meats and other fresh produce as well as experience handmade crafts from the village.

Les Deux Alpes summer views

Summer is perhaps the best time of year to enjoy the stunning views at Les Deux Alpes, thanks to the clear skies and green valleys on offer. Some of the most famous viewpoints include:

  • Belvedere des Ecrins: Offers sweeping views across the beautiful Ecrins mountain range and nearby glaciers.
  • Selfie XXL: Located at the summit of Valle Blanche, it is the perfect place to take a selfie of the surrounding mountains.
  • Veneon Valley: A dramatic view of the valley, which features an iconic alpine view.
  • Bourg d’Oisans plane: Great views of the valley below are surrounded by iconic cycling and hiking trails.
  • Alpe de Venosc wooden cross: A scenic spot behind the Chalet Mounier hotel that includes a Christian cross overlooking a mountain backdrop.
  • Gaze over Lac du Chambon :A beautiful turquoise lake that is perfect for photos or just a relaxing break.

How to get to Les Deux Alpes in the summer

The easiest and most convenient way to reach Les Deux Alpes is by using an airport transfer. Many visitors choose to fly into Grenoble Airport, which is the closest to the resort and takes just over an hour to reach by car. Others prefer Geneva Airport as it accepts more flights. This route takes over two hours and 30 minutes to get to Les Deux Alpes, depending on the road and weather conditions.

If you choose a private transfer, you and your group will receive exclusive access to one of our modern vehicles. Your driver will wait for you in arrivals before whisking you off to the resort, dropping you off directly at your accommodation. We will also monitor your flight to account for any delays that are not your fault.

Alternatively, our shared transfers involve regular shuttle buses that take you to your resort. This involves sharing the vehicle with others going to the same or nearby destinations. This option follows a pre-agreed timetable and will stop at your resort, taking you much closer than public transport.

While public transport is also an option, trains and buses can be slower and less flexible and will take you much longer than a transfer.

For the smoothest journey, private and shared transfers are always the best choice.
