Best ways of getting to Les Menuires
There is a wide range of different ways to reach La Plagne when embarking on a skiing holiday at the resort. The resort regularly welcomes visitors from all over the world with many people choosing to fly into a nearby airport before making their way to La Plagne via a range of transport options.
La Plagne’s nearest airport is Chambery but Geneva is the most popular choice due to the fact it welcomes more international flights each day.
Flights & Airport transfers to La Plagne
As mentioned above, La Plagne’s closest airport is Chambery in France and it is about one hour and 30 minutes drive away from the resort. While it is the fastest option, Geneva International Airport is often preferred. This is because it offers numerous flights compared to the more limited selection at Chambery. Geneva provides a wide range of flights from across Europe and beyond, and more airlines fly into the airport compared with Chambery.
Ski transfers from Geneva Airport to La Plagne are also extremely convenient and the easiest way of reaching the resort without having to navigate the tricky mountain roads yourself or having to figure out how to use public transport.

Train to La Plagne
Taking the train is a decent alternative to a transfer, and may be helpful if you’re not coming from an airport. Within France, you can make use of the country’s high-speed TGV train network. The nearest train station to La Plagne is Bourg-Saint-Maurice and it is accessible from many of France’s major cities. It is about a four-and-a-half-hour journey from Paris and can also be reached from other parts of France like Lyon.
Alternatively, if you’re coming from the UK, you can take the Eurostar to Paris before hopping on a train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. During ski season, some Eurostar trains may even go directly to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, so be sure to keep an eye out.
Once you reach Bourg-Saint-Maurice it takes around 35 minutes in a taxi to get to La Plagne.
Drive to La Plagne
Car hire is available from most airports if you want to drive yourself to La Plagne once your flight has arrived. From Geneva Airport, it normally takes around two hours and 30 minutes depending on the conditions.
If you do intend to drive yourself, be cautious on the mountain roads as it can be challenging if you haven’t driven on them before. While parking is generally available at most villages in La Plagne, you should always check with your accommodation first to make sure it offers parking spaces.
Coach / bus to La Plagne
Numerous bus companies offer coaches to La Plagne from major airports including Geneva, Chambery and Lyon. These services often run on weekends in peak season but it will take a bit longer than travelling by car or private transfer.
From Geneva Airport, you can expect a bus journey to take you around four hours.
