Where is Les Arcs?

Les Arcs is a popular ski resort that is located in Savoie in France. More specifically, the resort can be found in the Tarentaise Valley town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

The resort is made up of a variety of skiing areas including Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, and Arc 2000, which are spanned across various altitudes meaning there is the perfect piste for everyone no matter their ability or preference.

This includes more than 100 runs, 54 lifts and over 200 kilometres of descent. For those looking for the ultimate descent, Les Arcs’ biggest peak is Aiguille Rouge, known as the Red Needle, which has a 7km long piste and a 2,026 vertical drop to the village of Villaroger.

The resort was initially opened in 1968, the creation of Robert Blanc and Roger Godino, and has since become part of the Paradiski group, a group of interconnected ski resorts, in the region.

Les Arcs can be reached by flying into several airports in the surrounding area, and in the section below we can explain how to get to Les Arcs from Geneva Airport and other areas.

Best ways of getting to Les Arcs

Getting to Les Arcs is straightforward if you take the appropriate transport options. With so many different options to choose from, we’ve put together a handy guide outlining the best way to get to the resort.

Flights & Airport transfers to Les Arcs

Most travellers to the resort will require a flight first, with Chambery acting as Les Arcs’ nearest airport. Flying into Chambery, which is based in France, offers the quickest turnaround time, getting you to the resort in less than two hours once you have stepped off the plane.

However, while it is Les Arcs’ closest airport, it is one of France’s smaller airports meaning that flights are rarer and can be more expensive. Furthermore, the weather in Chambery is unpredictable and it is more common for flights to be delayed.

With this in mind, people often fly into Lyon, Grenoble or Geneva before using a transfer to get them to the resort. All of these airports are only around two hours and 30 minutes away from Les Arcs, so they still offer a relatively short transfer while providing more convenience. –  In particular, Geneva Airport is especially useful as more airlines fly into this transport hub, meaning cheaper fares and easier journeys are often available.

No matter what airport you choose to fly into, the best way to get to Les Arcs is a transfer.

At Alpine Fleet, we provide quality ski transfers from Geneva Airport to Les Arcs, as well as options from other airports.

This includes private and shared transfers.

A private transfer will grant you and your group exclusive access to one of our comfortable vehicles. As soon as you walk into arrivals you’ll find your driver waiting for you. From here, you’ll travel in one of our stunning vehicles while you enjoy the stunning Swiss and French mountain views. Incredibly convenient, this option will take you directly to your accommodation so you don’t need to worry about a thing.

Alternatively, you can opt for a shared transfer. This follows a similar format to a private transfer however the vehicle will be shared with others who are heading to Les Arcs or neighbouring resorts. The journey will stop at several resorts in the area before reaching exactly where you need to go.

Plus, if you prefer, you can hire a door-to-door service that will see you disembark before being taken to your specific accommodation in a private vehicle for the last mile or so.

Train to Les Arcs

If you’d prefer to travel by train, then this is also a great choice. Many domestic visitors head to Les Arcs on the simple and easy-to-use French railway, with regular trains heading to the resort from all over the country.

Usually, you’ll have to change trains in Paris from Gare du Nord onto Paris Austerlitz when you can travel the rest of the way to Les Arc’s nearest station of Bourg St Maurice. While en route, you’ll be able to experience some of France’s beautiful scenery as you make your way into the mountains so it’s always worth the trip.

Coach / bus to Les Arcs

It is very difficult to make it all the way to Les Arcs on a bus especially if you have flown into an airport. If you want to take a bus at some point, your best bet is to travel via rail and head to the Bourg St Maurice train station. From here, you can then use the local buses to Villaroger – the nearest village to Les Arcs. This should take you about 30 minutes but be aware that the buses are notoriously unreliable here.
